Rose Tawy

Senior Acquisitions Manager

Rose leads the Custom and Active Learning teams for Cognella. After earning a B.A. in English and political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Rose continued on to a M.A. program in literature and graduate certificate in community college teaching at San Diego State University. In addition to her studies, she has worked in higher education in instruction, curriculum design, student affairs and administrative services, and in publishing as a writer, reviewer, and acquisitions editor. In her free time, Rose works with local at-risk youth and adults to promote literacy and social justice, and enjoys reading, cooking, and hosting the occasional juggling workshop.

Mazin Hassan

Acquisitions Editor

Mazin works closely with instructors looking to improve the quality and affordability of custom teaching materials in print and interactive formats. Previously, he worked as a sales manager at several technology startups, helping brokers and real estate firms with their online presence and conversions. When Mazin isn’t researching new learning resources to share, he can be found on a hike somewhere in San Diego County or leading his indoor soccer team to victory.

Janny Li

Acquisitions Editor

Janny helps instructors through the entire process of publishing custom course packs, anthologies, and textbooks. After earning degrees in international relations and playwriting from the University of California, San Diego, Janny worked for her alma mater in several capacities, including serving as a grant manager of a National Science Foundation fund. She leveraged her experience at UC to write professionally for a start-up company and in magazines before joining the Cognella team in 2015. In her free time, Janny can be found writing, rock climbing, practicing yoga, and backpacking, often with her Golden Retriever/Chihuahua mix by her side.

Matt Boren

Senior Project Editor

Matt joined Cognella in 2012 as a custom project editor, bringing his experience in consultation and program management to his role in custom publishing. In his current role, Matt ensures faculty and program partners have the best publishing experience possible and leads projects with an eye on continually improving Cognella Custom’s publishing processes. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Colorado State University. Originally from Texas, Matt is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, who also enjoys golfing, hiking, and going to the beach.

Mark Nagy

Senior Project Editor

Mark’s previous work experience as a firefighter and kitchen manager of a brewpub taught him to think on his feet in fast-paced environments, a skill he’s successfully applied to his role as a senior project editor with Cognella Custom. Mark partners with instructors and program coordinators at institutions across the country to transform academic reading materials into efficient coursepacks and custom anthologies. In his free time, he plays street hockey for regional champs 4SRanch, enjoys jogs though San Diego’s Balboa Park, and whips up gourmet meals for friends and family.
