This guide is intended to provide you with general information regarding the rates and reprint limits for a wide array of third-party publishers. Selecting readings from certain categories listed below may have an effect upon the final price of your learning material. However, this is largely dependent upon the type of project you’re publishing with Cognella, so please ask your project editor for further details.
Rates
Affordable
These publishers are usually university presses or academic publishers. In addition, we have negotiated special rates with our publisher partners (indicated below), making the readings much more affordable than per their standard rates.
Moderate
These are usually larger publishers with standardized fees. While these fees are generally reasonable, it’s still a good idea to balance your reading list with content from our Affordable publishers list.
Expensive
These are also larger publishers or publishers that focus on niche subject matter. You’ll want to limit your usage of these publishers as the cost to republish their content may impact the price of your book (consult your project editor to verify this).
Prohibitive
We recommend that you avoid using these publishers, if possible. If you do include a reading from one of these publishers, you’ll likely want to balance your reading list with less expensive readings.
Denied
Content from these publishers are not available for republication. Please let us know if you’d like our assistance in finding a suitable replacement selection from one of our publisher partners.
Reprint Limits
Individual Reprint Limit: This limit refers to the total amount of material you can use from any one publication. For example, if the publisher’s book is 300 pages and they have an individual limit of 10%, you would be able to use no more than 30 pages from that particular book.
Collective Reprint Limit: This limit refers to the total percentage of your book that can be comprised of one publisher’s content. For example, if your book is 250 pages and the publisher has a collective limit of 10%, you would be able to use no more than 25 pages of their content.
