4. Prepare a chapter or module introduction.

A chapter or module introduction will give students an overview of what to expect in the chapter/module ahead and prepare them to learn. This section should provide a concise overview of the content to be covered.

• Why is it important (what is the rationale for learning it)?
• How will it be taught or presented (methodology)?

In your introductory materials, include engaging learning objectives and/or outcomes. Be sure that every learning objective or outcome will have content aligned to it.

A learning objective refers to what you want students to learn in the chapter. A learning outcome describes what students will be able to do with what they learn.

• What do you want students to learn in the chapter?
• What should they be able to do with what they learn?
• What skills should students be able to demonstrate?

As an example, to write a learning outcome, complete this statement “By the end of this unit you will be able to…”
