Strategy #3: Write the Main Body in Paragraphs Rather than Numbered or Bullet Point Lists
It’s quite common for a Large Language Model to generate a high volume of content quickly, but it will often produce highly formulaic writing that relies extensively on lists (a list of three ideas is extremely common). Items on the list are usually presented as phrases, rather than as complete, grammatically correct sentences. The information is usually very broad, and it can be hard to distinguish main ideas from supporting ideas or details.
If you’ve requested some help organizing your ideas, and the results include a lot of numbered or bullet point lists, the following steps can help turn those lists into something much closer to real writing.
- Work one paragraph at a time. Keep an eye out for repetitive vocabulary and transition words.
- First, just remove the bullet points.
- Second, rearrange the phrases or sentences into paragraph form.
- Working one paragraph at a time, rewrite phrases as complete sentences.
Whenever possible, add your own original commentary and insights to make the content more clear, specific, original, and unique.
