Cognella® Launches the Cognella Series on Student Success

Cognella publishes new series to help students navigate their academic careers

San Diego, CA – March 19, 2018 Cognella® today announced the launch of the Cognella Series on Student Success, a collection of books designed to help students develop the life and learning skills needed to support a happy, healthy, and productive higher education experience. The series features topics suggested by students and research-based, practical advice provided by experts in various fields.

To cultivate topics for the series, Cognella surveyed students and asked them what types of resources would help them successfully navigate their college experiences. As a result, the first books in the series address the transition from high school to college and into the working world, communication and self-presentation, exercise for improving health, financial management, and more.

“We know that learning isn’t confined to a course or a lecture, so we wanted to create a series that would help students flourish both inside and outside the classroom,” said Kassie Graves, Cognella Vice President of Editorial and supervisor of the series. “We chose the initial topics for the series based on suggestions from students, and then it was a matter of finding the right authors to bring those topics to life.”

Kassie enlisted Dr. Richard Parsons, professor of counselor education at West Chester University, to serve as editor of the series. Together, they recruited authors for each volume, experienced professionals from diverse disciplines who could provide sound and sage advice on each of the student-identified topics.

“When asked to participate in this project, my thoughts quickly turned from ‘this is exciting,’ to ‘this is so desperately needed,’” said Dr. Richard Parsons. “Most students and parents anticipate the academic challenges that come with transitioning to college. However, research indicates that the psycho-social pressures that accompany a new level of personal independence can result in academic failure and can also have a negative impact on a student’s overall well-being. The material in this series positions students in a way to maximize and embrace their social, emotional, and academic growth. I am so proud to be part of it.”

Cognella has launched seven titles in the Cognella Series on Student Success, with plans to publish additional books in fall 2018. The books are available for individual sale and can also be adopted for use in college orientation and college success courses and programs.

“We’re proud to take our commitment to student-centricity one step further with the launch of the Cognella Series on Student Success,” Kassie said. “We’re all very passionate about education at Cognella, and we’re thrilled to publish a series that can help students succeed throughout their academic careers.”
