TAA recognizes Cognella textbooks for their excellence, ingenuity, and longevity 

San Diego, CA – April 2, 2024 – Nine Cognella titles have received 2024 Textbook and Academic Authors Association (TAA) Awards. For more than 20 years, TAA has supported emerging and veteran textbook and academic authors through its annual award program.

The McGuffey Longevity Award

Of the fourteen books who earned 2024 McGuffey Longevity Awards at the college level, four are Cognella textbooks. The McGuffey Longevity Awards recognize textbooks and learning materials whose excellence has been demonstrated over time. To be nominated, a work must have been in print for at least 15 years and still be selling.

The award bears the name of William Holmes McGuffey, whose influential primers, which first appeared in 1836, helped bring the United State out of frontier literacy.

The Most Promising New Textbook Award

Of the twenty-two books who earned 2024 Most Promising New Textbook Awards at the college level, three are Cognella textbooks. The honor recognizes excellence in first edition textbooks and learning materials. Works are judged by textbook authors and subject matter experts for their merits in four areas: pedagogy, content/scholarship, writing, and appearance and design.
