We were delighted to host a booth at the National Communication Association (NCA) 2019 Annual Convention! It was great to meet new instructors and professionals in the discipline, showcase our titles, and visit with our authors in person.

During the convention, two Cognella authors, Steve Duck and Debbie Dougherty were honored with NCA Awards for their contributions to the communication discipline!

Steve Duck, the Daniel and Amy Starch Distinguished Research Chair and Chair of the Department of Rhetoric at the University of Iowa, was presented with the 2019 Mark L. Knapp Award in Interpersonal Communication. The Knapp Award recognizes an individual who has made significant scholarly contributions to the study of interaction and/or relational processes and who has contributed to the quality of interpersonal communication through active involvement in the discipline, significant mentoring of students, and public service focused on interpersonal communication. Dr. Duck’s two forthcoming publications with Cognella, both due Spring 2021, are: Communicating in Personal Relationships (co-authored with David McMahan) and the second edition of Rethinking Relationships.

Debbie Dougherty, Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Missouri, was awarded the 2019 Gerald M. Phillips Award for Distinguished Applied Communication Scholarship. Dr. Dougherty’s research program explores the relationship between power and organizing, particularly as related to both sexual harassment and social class. She is most widely recognized for her research on the relationship between organizational culture and sexual harassment with numerous publications on this topic in national and international journals. Her Cognella text, Sexual Harassment in Organizational Culture, will be published in Spring 2021.
