Cognella® Academic Publishing Signs 1000th Title

Milestone reached four years after creation of imprint for nationally marketed higher education titles

San Diego, CA – July 2, 2013 – Cognella® Academic Publishing, an imprint of Cognella®, Inc., today announced the signing of 1,000 titles since it began publishing higher education texts and anthologies in 2009. The imprint provides a distinctive approach for professors, allowing them to control the content of their course materials and decrease the time to market for nationally marketed titles.

“We cannot be more honored to have so many authors choose Cognella as their publisher. Receiving 1,000 signed titles in such a short time is clearly attributable to our relationship-driven and entrepreneurial approach to academic publishing” said Cognella Founder and CEO Bassim Hamadeh. “Cognella provides professors with an incredibly strong support structure to create reading and other learning materials that truly engage their students. Our model provides a publishing experience that authors have been demanding for years.”

Since 2009, Cognella Academic Publishing has been capturing the teachable moments within classrooms, enabling professors to design and tailor educational materials specific to their courses and learning objectives. Professors compile their choice of content using original works, as well as Cognella’s extensive digital library of pre-cleared readings from its publisher partners, which are available at reduced rates. This allows relevant and current topics to be published texts ready for a national market in months, whereas most textbooks take years to put together.

University of Michigan professor of astronomy Dr. Mario Mateo signed the 1000th title with Cognella Academic Publishing. His book on astrophysics, Alien Skies: A Travelogue of the Universe, will be published winter term 2014. “From the start, it has been a pleasure working with Cognella on my manuscript.  They seem to relish the opportunity to produce a new astronomy text that takes on a non-traditional approach to the exciting subject matter of the field.  My goal with the book is to engage students’ imaginations as well as their intellects; it’s great to work with people who clearly share that vision,” said Professor Mateo. His text will use current research to teach students how the skies would appear from a different vantage point in the universe than from our view on Earth.

“Our authors are at the forefront of our success and we are delighted to work with so many talented and inspiring professors who are true experts in their fields of study” Hamadeh said.
