Setup

ScreenPal

Download the Recorder from https://screenpal.com/screen-recorder. Follow the software installation instructions for your machine. Please note the location where the software will store your files, because you’ll need to include the source files when you submit your materials.

Huion Tablet

If you don’t own a writing tablet and wish to purchase one, we recommend the Huion 420. This tablet includes a CD with the necessary driver. It is possible to use the tablet without installing the driver, but the pen’s performance will be degraded. To create the highest quality materials possible, please download the driver. If you don’t have a CD drive on your machine, you can download the driver here: http://www.huion.com/download/

After you install the driver, practice using the pen and tablet before you start recording. It can take a little time to get used to navigating the screen using the pen, and we want the recordings to appear smooth and natural.

Making a Recording

As a best practice, Cognella recommends you use the Scripted recording option. In order to comply with ADA regulations, all recordings must have captions. Any videos that do not have captions cannot be released on the national market. While it is possible to use auto-captioning to meet this need, the use of the Scripted recordings option ensures we can provide the most accurate possible captions. In addition, writing a script in advance can often be helpful preparation for recording.

Write the script

To create a Scripted recording, start by clicking on the Scripted button at the top of the ScreenPal window.

Alt Text

This will open the Scripted window. Enter a name for your recording. Give the video a meaningful name that conveys the content rather than a generic title such as Chapter 1.

Alt Text

Click in the grey section and begin writing the text for your script. We recommend limiting each section to one or two sentences. This will make it easier to record and make edits or adjustments later. Write out the scripted text of your recording exactly as you plan to present it.
