Cognella Welcomes OpenStax as Newest Publisher Partner

New partnership provides Cognella authors with access to OpenStax textbook content

San Diego, CA – June 17, 2019 – Cognella today announced a new partnership with OpenStax, a nonprofit educational initiative that publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed, openly licensed college textbooks that are free online and low cost in print.

Under this new partnership, instructors now have the ability to incorporate chapters from OpenStax textbooks into Cognella projects, including original works, anthologies, custom course materials, and Cognella Active Learning environments.

OpenStax offers a robust collection of textbooks within the academic disciplines of math, science, the social sciences, humanities, and business. The books are written by experts in the field and meet standard scope and sequence requirements to increase their adaptability into existing courses. Peruse OpenStax textbook offerings.

“We’re thrilled to welcome OpenStax as our newest publisher partner,” said Cognella CEO Bassim Hamadeh. “Their commitment to improving access to education by offering students free and low-cost learning materials is nothing short of outstanding. We’re excited to partner with a publisher with a shared vision, and we know our authors will find immense value in OpenStax content.”

“OpenStax is pleased to have our materials included in the Cognella platform. Cognella provides unique customization and adaptation opportunities that our communities can benefit from,” said David Harris, editor-in-chief for OpenStax. “By expanding our distribution options with Cognella, OpenStax will be able to provide access to even more learners, which is core to our mission.”

Instructors can incorporate third-party content from OpenStax into their Cognella publishing projects immediately. OpenStax content will be added to the Cognella Digital Library in the near future.

“In addition to providing instructors with access to OpenStax content, we’re also excited to build Cognella Active Learning activities to complement existing OpenStax textbooks,” said Cognella Senior Acquisitions Manager Rose Tawy. “We’re now accepting proposals from instructors who are using OpenStax textbooks and would like to provide their students with dynamic, online educational experiences.”
