Sample Syllabus

Adopting instructors can use a sample syllabus as a guide for teaching the material within your textbook. A sample syllabus should include the course description, learning objectives, grading breakdown, and a reading schedule, if applicable. Having a reading schedule for both a semester and quarter schedule is ideal.

To Create a Sample Syllabus

  • Remove institution-specific information from your syllabus, including contact information, teaching assistant details, institution-specific dates, etc.
  • Add the book title and author name(s) in the upper left-hand corner of the page.

Tips

  • If you have experience teaching your course with varying frequency (Tuesday/Thursday course and Monday/Wednesday/Friday course), suggestions for how to adapt a syllabus for each schedule would be useful for adopting professors.
