Step 2: Log Your Content

Once you’ve selected your readings and excerpts, fill out your Readings and Excerpts Log: http://cognella.com/resources/readings_and_excerpts_log.xltm. In the Excel spreadsheet, include the title, author, publication or website address, and page range for each of your selections.

The examples included in this guide demonstrate how to provide the required information for content taken from various sources, including books, journals, websites, and content from the Cognella Digital Library.

Organizing Your Content

If you plan to organize your readings into sections or chapters, draft an organizational table of contents in Microsoft Word and provide it to your project editor. This document does not need to contain page numbers or other specifics; it simply serves as an organizational roadmap for our team.

If you’d like further guidance to create your table of contents, contact your project editor.

Within the Cognella Digital Library, locate the s-number ID for the selection you’d like to use.

Follow the same process for columns B–G as though you were recording readings for a book or journal article (see instructions on pages 1 or 2). Include the s-number ID in Column J.
